Sport Job Day: Your career compass for the french sports industry

Sport Job Day: Our recruitment event on the 13th of June in Paris
Where will your degree or apprenticeship take you? The Sport Job Day is your chance to define your next steps. Take part on the 13th of June in Paris and present yourself to recruiters from the french sports business.

Introducing the Sport Job Day

The Sport Job Day is a recruitment event for young adults, graduates and apprentices, with an active lifestyle and the desire to start a career in sports. On the 13th of June 2018, companies & young career interested come together in Stade Jean Bouin in Paris to connect and get to know each other. For the last decade, the sports sector has been one of the biggest growing employers in Europe, offering more than 200.000 jobs in France alone. A development resulting in the creation of entry positions for school & university graduates - and enough reason to dedicate a whole recruitment event to the sports sector alone. Not only will interested graduates have the chance to inform themselves about employment possibilities and professions, but directly participate in workshops & interviews with recruiters.

The programme

Similar to a job ferry, sports brands present themselves in set-up booths, giving insights into their work environment, as well as employment and training opportunities. Team members from Human Recources will be there to answer all your questions - and for you to gain valuable contacts. In 10 minute Speed Dating Interviews, applicants and companies immerse in an straight-to-the-point dialogue to learn more about each others character & qualities - a short, but effective way to figure out if it's a match. It's a place to learn: In conferences, professionals lecture about related topics, for example new professions in the sports sector or give advice on how to conquer the international sports job market. Participate actively in workshops with headhunters and recruiters to improve your future applications and interviews.

The year in which ISPO Munich became a recruitment event

You can never predict how an event like ISPO Munich 2018 might change the path of your career. Visitor's of the professional fair know how it is a platform to establish strong contacts and if you're persistent enough, even end up with an employment offer. However, this year's ISPO Munich offered a direct approach of connecting companies and talents.By simply using the halls walls to place attractive job offers from the european sports industry, the digital ISPO Job Market had its own "booth" at the trade fair. And probably one of the most seen. Since tracking all passers-by would have been impossible in a transitional space, we are trusting our guts that the international job offers, company and university profiles have been passed by most of all visitors.

A remarkable success

In the 4 days between the 28th and 31st of January, 84.000 visitors from 120 countries visited the trade, noticibly increasing the internationality of the event. After all, they had a lot to see: 2.801 exhibitors showcased the new trends from wintersports, outdoor, fitness and more. Additionally, the Job Corridor from ISPO Job Market and Sportyjob presented them opportunities for a new career right in between. Visitor's could learn about international employer's of the sports business and their most recent job opportunities, as well as about the sport related study programs of universities and schools from Cologne to Oregon.
Expanding the limits of a printed medium, all poster's have been combined with a QR code that linked to the digital job board ISPO Job Market. This way, career interested could find out more about a job offer or even look for other possibilities. A service that lead to around 16.000 unique views of the different pages.

Creativity and exceptionality for the win

More than informing about careers, the ISPO Munich 2018 allowed us to take a peek at the development of recruitment in the sports industry in 2018.Marketing is still on the rise in employment - a trend which can also be found outside of the sports business. With around 1/3 of offers on the Job Wall being from the creative department, the need & importance of marketing (teams) for modern companies shows. Luckily, this seems to be a mutual development as interested visitors chose to read more about these offers as well. The other way to gather more interest and candidates is exceptionality. Even in a professional segment like recruitment, employers need to stand out to impress. No suprise that the ad from german sleeping bag manufacteurer prodecon caught a lot of attention. "Wir suchen noch ein Sackgesicht!" which translates as "We are looking for another d**kface" (in german, "Sackgesicht" would literally be "bag face") made people stop, laugh and in the end actually re-open the ad on their phones and computers back home. Proving once more that classical recruitment needs a refreshment in 2018, with classical job profiles taking a back seat.
By the way: About the ISPO Job Market “ISPO has always been instrumental in starting successful careers and placing candidates in exciting jobs” The quote from Tobias Gröber, Head of ISPO Group, is nowadays more true than ever. The biggest network in the sports industry always connected professionals with exciting brands – and naturally every now and then these lead to a job proposal. In 2016, however, ISPO decided to actively connect employers and talents: They partnered up with Sportyjob to enhance their wide portfolio with a career service. The created career portal, ISPO Job Market, lists jobs from about 220 companies and is used by around 26.000 candidates.

Our Sportyjob year 2017 in words & numbers – happy new year!

With new year's eve being only a couple of hours away, we can't help but look back on the last year. To say the least, it's been a year. For us, 2017 was about going forward. Just like our candidates who worked the year on advancing their careers, we wanted to bring Sportyjob to a new level. And without any romanticisation, for ourselves, we can say that we succeeded. So, what's been our biggest moments 2017?

The ISPO Career Day 2017

It's just one month to go until we celebrate our coopertion with ISPO Munich once more. Which means: It's been almost a year since the last Career Day happened. Our approach to bring the online job board to the most important sport's fair in europe was very exciting for us, the companies and candidates. Speed Dating Interviews, job offers on the go on the Job wall and a lot of links between companies and visitors - what an event!  But we have to admit, it went great: “Every company hired at least one person after or during the show in 2017 - which is great news!”, says Andy (one of our CEOs if you didn't know yet).Ispo Career Days Munich 2017 Sportyjob

1488 Job Listings and around 500 companies

That's right: Sports companies listed round 1500 sport jobs in our job board this year - that's been plenty of opportunities for a career change. Especially, candidates looking for a sport job in Marketing, Management and Retail have been lucky - they have been listed the most! In 2017, we have been connecting Sportyjob with 500 hiring companies - to give you the best chances for a career bost. Even though not every business published an ad, all of them have been browsing your CVs and opened up for intiative applications by Sportyjob Candidates.

New website, new App

We have to admit: We already launched our new website at the end of 2016. But: 2017 was about the fine tuning for you, working on the website, the usability and all these things that happen hidden for the users in our Sportyjob back-end. We also brought our blog back from retirement - which has been asleep since 2014 - to deliver you fresh news and insights. Our highlight though was bringing the job search to your mobile phone by launching our Sportyjob Apphoping to make it even easier for you to find a new career.

The growing Sportyjob Team

Even we were hiring in 2017! With more and more collaborating sports companies and Lennart and Andy being integrated in other projects as well, we needed more helping hands. Since the sports industry stopped being a man-dominated field years ago, it was time for some female touch: In February, we welcomed Claudia (that's me! :)) to the team to help us with our Social Media & Blogs. And in April, we were happy to recruite our youngest team member, our lovely Linda, who first started as an intern and is now supporting our Sales. Now, at the end of the year, our family grew even more. Our newest colleague, Stephane, will introduce himself in our blog soon. Until then, meet 2/3 of our team - hello guys! The team behind the job board SportyjobFrom left to right: Lennart (CTO), Linda (Sales), Michel (IT) and Andy (General Manager)

Our new year's resolution

Let's have a little sneak peak in 2018, shall we?An eventful start is ahead of us: In less than two weeks, Decathlon and Sportyjob launch the Jobathlon in Merginac, France, followed by the ISPO Career Day 2018 at the end of January, expanding our online job board to life recruiting! We are also looking forward to even more job chances for you: Two of the greatest sports groups of Europe have signed up with us for 2018, contributing their free positions every day in 2018: Amer Sports and VF Corporation.Doesn't ring a bell for you? Amer Sports is best known for its brands Salomon, Wilson, Atomic, Arc’teryx, Mavic, Suunto and Precor, but has even more to offer. The VF Corporation is recognised for its brands Vans, Timberland, The North Face, Reef and more. That's two of the biggest employers of the sports industry - just saying. To make long story short, there's just one more thing for us to do this year (apart from celebrating later by). We want to say thank you - for trusting us with your career paths and using our job board in the last year. Cheers!

Surf Jobs: Combining your passion with your professional life

Everyone who is addicted to surfing will sooner or later think about working in the surf industry. Whether it's the chance for living close to the sea with more quality time in the water or the urgent need to bring in your passion and knowledge to improve your favorite products and brands, your soul screams for a surf career job! Even though the market is limited and the jobs are high on demand, we might just have the right position for you.

Amongst a multitude of other sport jobs, we love to find and publish surf related jobs. The reason is simple, that our Team loves surfing. Lennart, one of our CEO's is owner and co-owner of two Surfcamps, and I for myself worked two years in a surfcamp and started to freelance in Content Marketing to be close to the ocean more often. So, we know exactly how it feels to be landlocked. Sitting in an office, too far away from decent waves, waiting for the next surftrip to come.

Thankfully, there's a lot of chances to combine your passion with your professional life - one of them actually being NOT working in the surf industry.

Surf Jobs in the boardsports industry

In Australia, it is common to go surfing in your lunch break or even pausing work when there are good conditions: Companies like Billabong give their employees the chance. Sounds like a dream, right?Well, let's be realistic: This isn't the case everywhere. Working in the boardsports industry can mean spending your time in the office, even when it's pumping outside. It is a job and it will demand the same amount of working hours than any other career. Employments in companies of the boardsports industry, for instance at Quiksilver, Patagonia, Volcom, SurfStitch and many more, mean you breathe, live and love surfing. But on a professional level. What does it mean to work in the surf industry? You think that it means spending a lot of time surfing. The society thinks that you are actually just relaxing in the sun, being on holidays all year long. What you really do though, is work. On a desk. On a regular schedule.A job in a surf-related businesses asks you to bring in your passion and expert knowledge into product development, online marketing, event management and so on. It means being concerned with surfing the most part of the day, but just not in the water. If you want to make an impact on the industry, further develop your favorite wetsuit, board or wax - this is the places where you want to work.Check our company profiles with recent job ads of the following surf related companies:

Working in a surfcamp

Corporate work is just not your thing? You'd prefer getting out of your 9 to 5 job? Working in a surfcamp or surfschool might be your dream position. They are located at the ocean, on an island, far away, in the sun - in paradise. Surfcamp Jobs in Bali, Europe and everywhere else offer work as Cooks, Housekeepers, Receptionists, Managers, Animator and - of course - surf coaches. Some of them need a special training, others are a great option to get away in your mid term (calling Teamers here!).They can be great fun, meeting new people every day, spending a lot of time outside, being creative and socialising. Especially teamer jobs often only require a couple of hours per day to work and having the rest of the time off to surf yourself. The full time jobs though are calling for endurance and responsibility - it means working in tourism. Your working hours can switch every week, you might end up working 6-7 days a week, from 08:00 in the morning to 02:00 at night (becaue the check-in has a delayed flight). You always have to keep your spirit up, because you are almost always surrounded by guests. As a surfcoach, you could end up standing on the beach for 8 hours through without surfing a single wave yourself. Surfcamp jobs are real work, guys. And when you think you're tired of it - well, believe me - you'll get your reward. You'll have a couple of hours off, with the sun above you, a set coming up and the perfect wave to surf. In a line-up full of friends. You'll have a BBQ on the beach, with someone bringing a guitar and a Cajon. You will meet people who share their personal stories with you, touching your heart. You'll see stoked surf students coming back from their lessons with the biggest grin, when they stood their first wave. And it will be worth every little second of struggle and effort.Even if they don't list job offers right now, use the contact information on our surfcamp profiles to send out a initiative request - most of the times, these small businesses are happy for help. Keep in mind though, the part time jobs like animator could mean working only for a room, food and surfing material:

A job close to the ocean in a non-surfing-related field

If you want to change the industry, meet more like-minded people, bring in your knowledge and passion of water sports, then the upper two career paths might suit you more. But if you are looking for a change which brings you closer to the ocean and giving you the chance to surf more, then a job outside of the sports industry is also a great chance.

An internship in the sports industry: Meet Linda, our new team member!

The team behind the job board Sportyjob
What is it like to start an internship in the sports industry? Will I fit in, will I meet my boss’ and colleagues’ expectations and do I have even what it takes in order to be successful at Sportyjob? My thoughts were filled with many more than those three tricky questions as I arrived at the office in Biarritz not too long ago. I was – and still am - very enthusiastic about becoming part of the Sportyjob team and its continuous growth. The day I received the good news that Lennart and Andy wanted me to become part of their team, I felt very happy and confident on the one hand but at the same time, a feeling of uncertainty and curiosity pervaded me rapidly. I would like to get you involved in how it all started, what I did before in terms of education and why I chose to apply for an internship in the sport department. Here it goes! The relevant thread of my educational career probably started when I left my hometown in Germany to spend one year abroad in the United States in 2010. I decided to apply for an exchange student program when I was 15 years old and luckily, I got placed in Petal, Mississippi, where many influences started to shape my personality. Back then, I was already looking for athletic challenges and I loved to practice sports in my free time. I never imagined it could be part of my professional career one day though. The next step that affected my decision regarding study programs and hence, my professional development, was the gap year after I graduated in Germany in 2013. I spent six months in Australia trying to find out what continuative path to choose – but I got stuck, it appeared to be a dead end! Eventually, right after I had settled back in at home, I decided to enroll myself for a study program named Languages and Business Administration at the Westsächsische Hochschule Zwickau (University of Applied Sciences of Zwickau), focusing on the French language. And still, I was practicing sports and trying to compensate daily issues with physical activity, therefore I never lost interest in working in the sports industry later on.I started to ponder what job could practically combine my passion for sport and the interest in a professional occupation that pays the bills as well. Due to the fact that the third year of my Bachelor program is obligatory to be spent abroad (in my case it had to be a French partner university), I moved to the south of France in August 2016 and continued my studies in Perpignan. The time flew by and I started looking for attractive internship opportunities to fulfill the mission determined by the Licence Professionnelle en GPOD, that I had started at the UPVD ( Université de Perpignan Via Domitia). As mentioned earlier, Sportyjob welcomed me on behalf of their team and I soon got excited about discovering the region of Biarritz online before I actually moved to Aquitaine. Even though I just recently started my internship, I already notice how fast the gain in experience takes place and that I do not only benefit from the input given by my boss but also of qualitative hints and remarks given by my colleagues. I am looking forward to develop personal and linguistic skills as I work at Sportyjob, precisely because I know that the knowledge transfer is based on valuable experience and personally developed know-how that I cannot wait to seek.Don’t wait too long to send in your application, do it now! Sport jobs and especially internships are being filled within a blink of an eye – I know that now!

A review of a great sport job year 2014

sportyjob logo

Christmas time is review time, that's why we are going to have a look at the year 2014 in today's sport job blog.

 sportyjob logo

Featuring the Winter Olympics and the Soccer World Cup 2014 was an epic year for sports and so it was for Sportyjob. By now there are more than 22000 registered candidates and we are counting more than 5000 submitted applications currently. Furthermore there are constantly around 100 open sport job offers in all European countries. In comparison to 2013 this is a great increase and we just want to say thank you for your love and support since only with your support it was possible for Sportyjob to establish itself as THE job board for sport jobs in Europe.

Due to the higher number of candidates Sportyjob as well attracted plenty of new sport job companies from every angle of the industry and there are still a lot of “old established” sport job employers that enjoy our services. Altogether there are 160 brands that subscribed to Sportyjob and are publishing their sport job offers. A few of the are still small and only offer one or two sports jobs, but there are also global players that are recruiting dozens of new sport job employees via Sportyjob.

Amongst the old established ones we are especially thankful to have Quiksilver on board. Quiksilver and the brands of the Quiksilver family, Roxy & DC Shoes enlighten us almost daily with exciting and extraordinary sport job openings and have posted more than 350 sport jobs so far. There are also ON Running, Black Diamond, Skins, Kiwami, Riders Match, Sonae, Patagonia, Le Coq Sportif and Vilebrequin that were looking for new sport job candidates on a regular basis and we always loved to see new sport job postings by the Freeride World Tour, Shimano, Adidas, Volcom, Nixon and the subsidiaries of our own family: AG Sport Bags, AG Sport Consulting and Njuko. Furthermore we were especially stoked to welcome three international sport job employers that already recruited a lot of new sport job staff via Sportyjob in 2014: Nike, Runtastic and Amer Sports. Also we were able to acquire new sport job companies of the retail sector – Blue Tomato, Sportshop.fr, someride.com as well as SportScheck and there is also SurfStitch that trusts us since the very beginning.

And then there are all the new sport job employers we were happy to welcome on Sportyjob like the winter and outdoor brands Mammut, Norrona, Klättermusen, Isbjörn of Sweden, Sigmax Europe, Heimplanet, Timberland, Wed’ze, ABS Avalanche Airbag System, Contigo, Söllworld, Acushnet and Fitsip as well as the Dakine Shop and the online magazines Funsporting and Adrénaline. Furthermore we were stoked to see sport job offers from the distribution agency Storm Tech, brand New Era, the German StrongmanRun, communication agency LoeschHundLiepold, Yurbuds sport earphones, recruitment agency Bloch Consulting, sports marketing company Eol and last but not least fitness provider Neoness.

As you can see a lot happened in 2014 and we are proud about every single sport job published, about every candidate registered and every sport job company that subscribed to Sportyjob.

Thanks again for your love, without you this wouldn’t have been possible. To help us grow please feel free to share our website with your friends, company and people around you – the more candidates the more sport job companies will be attracted and that in the end means more sport jobs and amongst these hopefully YOUR dream sport job :)

We are looking forward to a great sport job year 2015!

Your Sportyjob-Team
