Join our Product Core Technology team as a Backend Software Engineer, where you’ll help architect, build and maintain GraphQL APIs, Kafka-based, distributed event-driven systems that power our global operations.
You’ll play a key role in ensuring that Product Information flows efficiently across platforms, including our website, mobile app, internal applications and external partners. You will directly contribute in turning Product Data into a strategic competitive advantage, accelerating the speed of On’s innovation and go-to-market. Your work will enable R&D, product creators and managers, copy and translators, studio and marketing teams to access, manage, and distribute product data with ease.

Your mission

In Your First Month:
– Get to know On’s product data ecosystem and infrastructure
– Pair up with senior engineers to learn the tools and services used by the team
– Contribute to code reviews, ensuring high-quality, secure, and well-tested code

After Three Months:
– Implement new features and services to enhance our data infrastructure
– Work on our Kafka-based event streaming system for real-time data distribution
– Collaborate with product and other engineering teams to deliver business value

After Six Months and Beyond:
– Take ownership of small to medium-sized projects
– Support improvements to system reliability and performance
– Continue learning and contributing to team best practices and engineering quality

Your Responsibilities
– Develop & maintain robust, scalable backend systems using TypeScript and Node.js (experience with Ruby is a plus)
– Work with GraphQL APIs and event-driven systems
– Collaborate with engineers and product stakeholders to solve problems
– Contribute to code reviews and improve code quality across the team
– Help document your work and share knowledge within the team

Your story

– Experienced in backend development, particularly with Node.js and TypeScript
– Experience in building GraphQL APIs, or interest to learn
– Understanding of SQL or NoSQL database systems
– Great communicator who can explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
– A self-starter who is willing to step up and go out of the comfort zone
– Excited to experiment, explore new technologies, and help shape a growing area of our business
– Comfortable with complexity, ambiguity, and can pivot based on new information

Bonus Points If You Have:
– Hands-on experience with AWS or GCP
– Previous experience with AI and ML or strong personal interest
– Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
– A track record of building internal tools that improve workflows
– A passion for sports
